{"id":6777,"date":"2012-09-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/imitations\/"},"modified":"2012-09-05T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-09-04T22:00:00","slug":"imitations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/en\/imitations\/","title":{"rendered":"Imitations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the spread of natural pearls, in <strong>17th century<\/strong> a clever rosary-bead craftman found by accident the method to <strong>craft imitations<\/strong> of this precious natural gem with a pearlescent mixture, now famous as &#8220;<strong>orient essence<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Pearl imitations\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/pearls.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p>Even if nowadays this special mixture is used to craft high quality imitations, like the Majorca pearls, there are several other types of imitations:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>glass beads filled with beewax<\/strong>, created with the original process and easily found in antique jewellery;<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>solid glass beads<\/strong>, like the Majorca ones, coated with pearl essence or other mixtures, for example plastic, cellulose or varnish, up to 40 layers;<br \/>\n&#8211;<strong> plastic pearls<\/strong>, of very low quality, that can have the same treatment of the solid glass ones;<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>mother-of-pearl beads<\/strong>, obtained from the mother-of-pearl layer inside the shell of the mussel, and frequently descripted &#8220;semi-cultivated&#8221;, atering the meaning of imitation to make it more tempting to the costumer and defining them very valuable, even if they are available for a few dollars per rope.<\/p>\n<p>Imitations, born before the official cultivation to provide a <strong>less expensive and rare substitute<\/strong> for natural pearls, have soon become the first way to obtain pearls at a greatly lower price than the natural ones, even if <strong>extremely inferior about beauty and autenticity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the spread of natural pearls, in 17th century a clever rosary-bead craftman found by accident the method to craft imitations of this precious natural gem with a pearlescent mixture, now famous as &#8220;orient essence&#8220;.
