{"id":6852,"date":"2012-12-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-18T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/kasumi-ga-ura-pearls\/"},"modified":"2012-12-19T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-12-18T23:00:00","slug":"kasumi-ga-ura-pearls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/en\/kasumi-ga-ura-pearls\/","title":{"rendered":"Kasumi-ga-Ura pearls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since always Japan has been known and renowned for its <strong>great history<\/strong> and <strong>traditions<\/strong>, deeply rooted in its population: the <strong>pearl cultivation<\/strong> is no exception and the same country gives birth to this tecnique which later evolved into a true industrial sector.<\/p>\n<p>Many <strong>freshwater and salt water pearls<\/strong> are cultivated in Japan &#8211; like the <strong>Akoya<\/strong> ones and <strong>Biwa<\/strong> ones &#8211; but not so many people know the <strong>Kasumi-ga-Ura<\/strong> ones, particular baroque pearls with n <strong>irregular surface<\/strong>, as fascinating as rare to be found nowadays.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/Kasumi-ga-Ura-pearls_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3872\" height=\"2592\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p>Between the <strong>70s and the 80s<\/strong> Biwa lake employed hundreds of people in the pearl cultivation, since <strong>Biwa<\/strong> meant highest quality freshwater pearls in the world, but pollution didn&#8217;t arrive too late and at the <strong>end of 1980<\/strong> all the efforts and sacrifices had become useless: the attempts to establish &#8211; partly at least &#8211; the production of pearls once again in the <strong>Kasumi-ga-Ura lake<\/strong> challenged both the market and the natural environment, but with the entry of China all the production (aside form the in-body nucleation) were discontinued.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>2010<\/strong> an additional blow hit this small &#8211; and now family-based &#8211; cultivation: the <strong>Chinese companies<\/strong> are finally able to introduce in the market pearls with <strong>in-body nucleation<\/strong> and X-rays can confirm it: with a drilled nucleus up to the Japanese standards, these pearls can considerably resume the <strong>Kasumi<\/strong> ones and, despite the small differences, China proves to the have ability to produce them.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1992 a considerable quantity of baroque pearls imported from the Pacific came from the Kasumi-ga-Ura area, but because of the <strong>massive death<\/strong> begun in the <strong>2003<\/strong>, which caused the loss of the <strong>80%<\/strong> pearls under cultivation, has also damaged the &#8220;baroqueness&#8221; of each harvest, lowering their quality: this fact didn&#8217;t properly ruined the market, which usually asks for smoother pearls, but regular pearls can&#8217;t have the peculiar colors which characterize the baroque ones.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the big obstacle that this small cultivation had to bear through the years, there are still <strong>some operators<\/strong> (<strong>5 in 2009<\/strong>) which pursue this project thanks to <strong>their dedication and personal love for this craft<\/strong> and this type of pearl.
