And right from these simple shells some beautiful and rare pearls come to life, the <strong>Codakia<\/strong> ones.<\/p>\n<p>These pearls are produced by <strong>bivalves from the Codakia family<\/strong> (particularly the <strong>Tigerina<\/strong> type), which can be easily found <strong>in muddy sands or under the gravel during low tides<\/strong>, for this reason it&#8217;s really common to find them during strolls on the foreshore ver early in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>This type of molluscs has a typical <strong>round and flat form<\/strong> with frontal protection, and its shell is also carved with <strong>concentric dark circles<\/strong> on the surface; both of each sides of the bivalve have two hinges and two lateral teeth. Even if this invertebrate doesn&#8217;t have <strong>any syphons<\/strong>, this mussel uses its long foot to create an <strong>efficent passage<\/strong> which, conveniently lined with slime, provides a secure way to <strong>intake and expel sea water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/codakia_tigerina_pearl.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2588\" title=\"codakia_tigerina_pearl\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genisi.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/codakia_tigerina_pearl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pearls produced by this mussel are usually of a <strong>light pink color<\/strong>, <strong>oval or round shaped<\/strong> with a <strong>smooth texture and opaline and almost transparent luster<\/strong> thanks to the <strong>particular mechanisms of formation<\/strong> inside the mollusc itself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vacations at the sea usually stand for relax, sunbathing, swimming, making beautiful strolls on the foreshore and, why not, picking up some shells among the sand.
